Introducing Journalism Lives, a blog covering the benefits of interactive news
Welcome to Journalism Lives, a blog about how technology is reinvigorating the news industry through interactivity. We’ll explore how innovators of the new news ecosystem are leveraging interactivity to improve news gathering and delivery.
Sound like fun? We think so.We are David Kennedy and Steve Earley. We have both worked in community journalism, have a great passion for the future of news and recently completed Elon University’s interactive media graduate program. We decided to start this blog because we wanted to join the greater conversation about the future of the news. We both have our own personal blogs (here and here), and write about journalism and new media in those spaces, but we wanted to hone in on the subject, and, we hope, add some value. Here’s how we plan to do that. We will:- Interview journalists, innovators and experts in the field to get their take on a variety of topics.
- Create and collect tools and tutorials that will help the journalists of today and tomorrow do their job better.
- Provide examples of good interactive news stories, projects and websites, giving each a critical eye, so we can help you understand what might work and/or not work for your audience.
- Shine a light on the exciting new organizations that have started to pop up more and more in the journalism world.
- Share links to must-read resources on the future of news. (Some of our favorite sites are 10,000 Words, Nieman Journalism Lab and Lost Remote.)
- Keep tabs on the evolving news industry and share our enthusiasm for the possibilities.
- Collaborate with you on a lot of this.
Ultimately, we hate hearing about the struggles of the news industry, and want to help turn those struggles into something positive. It's a new day for journalism, and from our vantage point, it looks like a sunny one. We hope you’ll join us.
